Science Experiments - Week 9

We had lots of fun this week doing Science Experiments every morning. we predicted or had a hypothesis about what was going to happen, we observed and then we thought about why.

The first one we did was Pop! Bang! Fizz!

We mixed baking soda with water, (nothing happened!) then baking powder with water. (There was a little fizz)  Then we tried vinegar, baking soda with vinegar and baking powder. These were a lot fizzier and there was a chemical reaction. A chemical reaction is when a new substance is made. It was a gas - carbon dioxide. That is why is was fizzing.

We also use this gas to blow up a balloon!

We did an experiment with M&M's and watched as the colour dissolved in water. We looked at sinking and floating where we tested different objects to see what would sink and why. Bigger objects didn't always sink - why not? Finally we did dancing raisins where the baking soda and vinegar made the raisins "dance".
