Term 2 Week 8 Zoo Trip!

 We had a fabulous time at the zoo - the weather was fantastic, and we had a chance to walk around almost the whole zoo. We covered 5.5 km, a great effort by all. The rhino, orangutan, kiwi, Galápagos tortoises were some of our favourites. 

Term 2 Week 7

 We had the Duffy show this week and it was a fantastic performance set during lockdown. The kids all got to see the backstage including props, costumes and sound effects, as well as the actors doing a brilliant job. 

In maths we have been looking at groups of (x) and also even numbers. I challenged the class to find or draw something in the class that was an even number. Here are a few things they came up with.

Term 3 Week 6

 It was good to be back at school. We are continuing to practise for Cross Country and do the Footsteps Dance Programme. We are also doing some Science experiments. This week R14 went to R11 to see what things would sink and float. 

R14 has a weekly library time which the class really enjoys. 

We have also been practising representing Maths in diagrams. The below show 4 x 2, 3 x 5, 3 x 10 , 6 x5 and some others! 

Term 2 Week 3

 What an exciting week and especially the end to the week with the police helicopter visiting Owairaka, and landing in our school field. Somehow the weather was good enough, and what a fantastic opportunity to watch it land, take off and go and have a close-up look.

Earlier in the week we read Dharma the Llama, and Sereen and Aurora were very proud of their creation.

Term 2 Week 2

 This Term we have also started a dance programme Footsteps, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed following along and learning some new dance moves. 

We also have added having toast to our Discovery time with the kids adding the butter and jam to the toast. Lovely on a cold autumn morning. 

Road Safety Week

 This week is Road Safety Week!  Here are some ways we can be road safety superheroes:

• always use the school crossing

• walk, bike or scooter to and from school 

• scooter at a safe speed and keep a look out for cars going in and out of driveways

• wear a helmet when you are on your bike or scooter

• be SAFE in cars - Seatbelts Are For Everyone!

Term 2 Week 1

We had a fun and busy start to the term. We have a Science focus for Term 2 and Room 14 will be looking at the Material World.

Room 14 joined up with Room 23 to do two Science experiments. The first one we had cabbage juice and we added baking soda and then vinegar alternatively and watched the colour change. In the second experiment we made ice-cream, watching milk change into solid by shaking it with ice.
