The school theme in 2017 for inquiry is Kotahitanga. Years 5/6 are looking in particular at Leaving a legacy. This term we are looking at people who have left a legacy. This week we looked at Kate Sheppard and we are making a biocube about her. We are learning to summarise main ideas of what we are reading.

Sustainability & Green week
We had great fun today learning more about electricity generation in New Zealand and sustainability. We even saw a solar powered car - very cool!
Duffy Certificates
Congratulations to Amy and Sana for a great week and Term so far at Owairaka. Great focusing on their work and completing independent work to a high standard.
Buddy Class
Fun with our Buddy Class - Room 7!
We made a slide about ourselves that we could share with our buddies. Then during our session together Room 24 helped their buddy from Room 7 make a slide about themselves. This was a great way of getting to know each other as well as sharing our knowledge and teaching Rm 7 how to use google slides.
Sharing, teaching, learning, creating and getting to know each other!

Congratulations! and Problem Solving
Well done to Lorenzo for receiving the Merit Certificate for the week. He has been exceptionally helpful in class, following instructions and focusing on his learning. Keep it up!
Congratulations also to Maxine and Vegas for being selected as Student Ambassadors for 2017. I'm sure you'll do a fantastic job.
Room 24 have also been looking at problem solving during Maths and are learning about problem solving steps. We are learning to use these when solving problems.
