Walk up Owairaka Maunga
We had a great walk up to the top of Owairaka. Once at the top we said our school Pepeha. The journey up on the paths was a challenge for some and everyone gave it a go! We also made maps when we came back to school.

The whole school picked up rubbish all around our neighbourhood. We picked up 200 kg altogether.
Here we are insepcting the rubbish we collected. 6 lucky people found golden tickets and won a t-shirt.

Making Muffins
We had fun making some banana and chocolate muffins. This was before they were cooked. They were delicious. So much so that the leftover mysteriously disappeared.
Mazes and bees
This week we used the context of bees finding pollen in a maze to practice computational thinking. Computational thinking in Year 2 is giving instructions.
The students gave directions for the bee to move through the maze collecting pollen on the way. They had to be careful to give clear and precise instructions. Many students had trouble remembering which way was left and which way was right!
I was very proud of the students and how they perserved. If they made a mistake with the directions they went back to fix up their instructions.

We made pikelets!!!
We used eggs, flour, sugar, milk, white sugar, salt and baking powder and mixed them together. After cooking them we put on butter and jam and ate them outside under the Pohutukawa tree.
Unfortunately we were so busy making and eating that we (I!!) forgot to take any photos. Please see the recipe below to make these at home.
I have given the class 'homework' which is for you to comment at home on this post.
Thanks for reading!

Kia orana - Cook Island Language week
This week we have learnt some facts and words from the Cook Islands. Did you know that the 15 stars on the Cook Island flag represent the 15 different islands of the Cook Islands?
Here is a song we learnt to help us remember how to count in Cook Island Maori. Do you notice the similarities and differences between the two languages?
We also had Hamida and some helpers talk to us about the Cook Island language and show us some instruments and dance moves. Check out the photos below:

At Green Day assembly we saw what all the other classes had been learning about.
Fantails:
- Live for 3 years
- Are small (maximum 16cm)
- Get their name from the shape of their tails
- Eat insects such as flies, ants and even wasps!
